SIMMS, TAYLOR posted by Julie on July 9, 1999

Looking for cousins of this family: Roy TAYLOR b.1884 in WV. Roy maybe his middle name with his first name being Addison. He was living in Crawford Co. IL after 1900 and by 1907 (a good estimate) but absolutely there by 1908 as his sister, Ada, was married in Paris IL in Nov. 1908. (His sister's full name was Sarah Ada Myrtle TAYLOR) She married Earl SIMMS. Roy shows up on the 1910 Crawford Co. IL census in Robinson, with his mother Mary, half sister Orpha B. and brother William B. He then shows up on the 1920 census of Crawford Co. IL (town not listed)with: Lydia A. wife age 29 born IL Freddie age 10 son born IL Cloral age 8 son born IL Elsa K. age 4 & 10/12 daughter born IL. At some point after 1920 this family removed to St. Marys OH. The only one I've found anything on is Cloral Taylor. He appeared on the SS death index with last known residence as St. Marys, OH. I sent for the SS application and it was made out in Robinson IL in 1937. It showed Cloral's father as Addison R. Taylor and mother as Lydia Kinman. So Cloral either came back to IL or the family did not move to OH until after 1937. I'm stuck on the g-grandfather of Roy Taylor and would love to find family to exchange notes with.

SHELTON posted by Kerry Stricklin on July 18, 1999

SHELTON Have traced what I believe to be my threee greats grandfather back to Crawford County Illinois in the 1860 census. Thomas Shelton was born around 1833 in Kentucky and married Mary (??). Their oldest daughter, my GG grandmother, was Nancy Catherine SHELTON born in Illinois around 1861. In the 1860 census in Flat Rock township I have found Thomas SHELTON age 24 with wife Mary also age 24 and son John age 2. Next door is William SHELTON also 24 and also born in KY with wife Louisa age 19 and son Jasper age 2. Family legend says Thomas was an herb doctor and had a twin brother that was killed in the battle of Pea Ridge Arkansas in the civil war. Have found Thomas and Mary again in the 1880 Benton County Missouri census with all known children. Have looked for information relating to William Shelton's death in the Civil War but have found nothing yet. Looking for any information about this family that anyone might be willing to share.
