GWINN, NICHOLS posted by Beckie on April 17, 2000

I am searching for Reuben NICHOLS and Avis GWINN's child(ren). The couple married in 1835 in West Virginia (Virginia then). Stories say they went to Ill and that she (Avis) owned land in Crawford county IL. She is said to have come back, after Reuben died, to WV on horseback and married again and stayed in WV. She had at least one child as a grandchild sued her estate that was from this first marriage. Any clues to this child(ren) identity would be greatly appreciated. Who did her child(ren) stay with in Crawford county? Where did they end up? Also details as to when/where Reuben died would be greatly appreciated.

James WALKER married Mary Jane PETERS circa 1860 (most likely in Jasper or Crawford counties) in Illinois. James & Mary were my gg- grandparents and had 6 children; Susan Frances, Rose Ella, Minnie, Eva, John and James, Jr. Susan Frances WALKER was born on September 15, 1863 in Willow Hill, Jasper County, Illinois and married William SHACKLES in 1883. Rose Ella WALKER married David PLUNKETT. Minnie WALKER married Frank DILLMAN. Eve WALKER married 1) Mince MONROE, 2) Sylvester MEEK and 3) Andy ZIELER. Have no idea who John and James, Jr. married. James WALKER, Sr. was a Civil War veteran. He is believed to be the same James WALKER listed as serving in the 63rd Regiment, Illinois Infantry, Company G. who was from Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois. After James WALKER, Sr.'s death, Mary Jane PETERS remarried twice. First to an unknown TURNER and secondly to Joseph W. SKIDMORE. The latter marriage was on January 19, 1897 in Palestine, Crawford County, Illinois. Joseph W. SKIDMORE died on March 21, 1925 in New Lebanon, Gill Township, Sullivan County, Indiana. Both he and Mary Jane are supposed to have resided near New Lebanon and are both believed to be buried there. Mary Jane died after 1925. I am in search of the final resting place of any of these individuals except for Susan Frances and William SHACKLES, they are buried near Kelso, Scott County, Missouri. I am also interested in correspondence with any related families to these individuals and of exchanging information.
